Be Prepared: Emergency Resources in Rogers

Posted by Jamie Smith on Tue, May 17, 2016

It might be because my father was an Eagle Scout or simply because I don’t like being without a plan, but when I travel I like to know where to find certain amenities in case my trip has a few “bumps in the road” so to speak. I thought that for today’s blog, I’d let you know of a few places where you can find help for some of those minor emergencies or unplanned contingencies.

My first thought is always medical. Who wants to get sick during a business trip or family vacation? No one! But, it happens. Fortunately, you can get relief without visiting a crowded, expensive emergency room for those non-life threatening problems. Rogers has several options for urgent care clinics including Family Medical Walk-In Clinic on Walnut, Care Express in the Walmart Super Center off Pleasant Grove Road, and MedExpress on Walnut. If you have a more serious emergency or these clinics are closed, Rogers is home to Mercy Hospital Northwest Arkansas.

Rogers also has plenty of pharmacies with later hours, but the only 24-hour pharmacy is in Springdale, which is just down the highway from Rogers.

What other contingencies should a traveler be aware of? My next thought is, what if something happens to your car or, in your excitement of enjoying the attractions in Rogers, that you accidentally lock your keys in your car?

Rogers has many towing and roadside assistance companies to choose from, including D&A Roadside Service, NWA Towing, and Recovery, or Advanced Services Towing and Recovery. In related information, you also have several taxi and car rental services to choose from if you find yourself without your own vehicle.

Another possibility is that your flight gets delayed and who wants to do laundry on vacation? Or what if you simply forget something you need? I’ve done this many times when on trips. Welcome to the land of Walmart! Rogers not only is the home to the very first Walmart store, it now has three Supercenters and numerous Neighborhood Markets. You can get food and toiletries at Neighborhood Market but if you need to buy an extra set of clothes, you will need a Supercenter.

The next amenity I thought would be helpful isn’t really an emergency thing as much as it’s really cool. Many of the Walmart locations in Northwest Arkansas (including Rogers) offer curbside grocery delivery. You order at the online grocery site (not Walmart.com) and then show up at the appointed place at your scheduled time. They even load your car for you. The name is a bit misleading, however. You can get pretty much anything in the store except for apparel items. That means if you need headache or allergy medicine, or food for your hotel room, you don’t have to go inside the store.

One more thought that I wanted to share with potential visitors. When you visit Rogers, Ark., you are protected by some of the most top-notch first responders around. In fact, the Roger Fire Department is one of three fire departments in the entire country (and the only one in Arkansas) to be accredited by both the Commission on Fire Accreditation International and the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services. The department is committed to the preservation of life and property throughout the community, whether you live here or are just visiting.

I hope that your visit to Rogers is problem free but I’m grateful that any visitor can find the help they need in case something doesn’t go as planned!
