100 Things To Do in Rogers #12: Parades, Lights and Holiday Fun

Posted by Jennifer Haile on Mon, Nov 25, 2013

The holiday season is upon us, which means our calendars are about to fill up with parties, Christmas programs and classic TV specials to watch with the family. There are a lot of holiday events coming up over the next few weeks in Rogers, starting with one of my favorite annual parades, the Rogers Christmas Parade. From an Ugly Sweater contest to visiting with Santa on the caboose, there is something for everyone this season. Plus, one of the best houses for viewing holiday lights is in downtown Rogers too! So, for your next assignment in the 100 Things To Do in Rogers series, head downtown for one or more of these fun events.

Holiday Hoopla Kick-off!

Join in for the kick-off of the Holiday Hoopla in Downtown Rogers at Frisco Stage (S. First & Elm Streets) on November 30 from 5-6 p.m. Santa will make his first appearance in Downtown Rogers at this fun, family event! Before the big man gets to the stage, it'll be rockin' with music and dancers from Ballet Westside. The city will officially light up the night as Mayor Greg Hines flips the switch on the city's giant 22-foot-tall Christmas tree! Stay for downtown for dinner at one of the area's great restaurants or street vendors.  Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, 5-6 p.m. ~ Downtown Rogers

Rogers Christmas Parade

Monday, Dec. 2, 2013 at 7 p.m. ~ Downtown Rogers

The Rogers Christmas parade is a crowd favorite! Since this parade is held after the sun sets, all of the nearly 100 floats are lit with bright holiday lights. The kids love it! This year, the parade will be held Monday, December 2 at 7 p.m. This year the theme is "Holidays Around the World" to showcase the beautiful traditions of the many cultures of people who call Rogers home. The parade runs along Poplar, First and Walnut Streets. Parking is always free downtown too!

Saturdays with Santa

Dec. 7, Dec. 14 and Dec. 21, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. ~ Frisco Caboose at the corner of Walnut and First Streets

When Santa visits Downtown Rogers, he hangs out inside the Frisco Caboose to hear what all the girls and boys want under their tree. He'll be there from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. each Saturday in December. Don't forget to bring a camera or take a photo on your smart phone to share with family and friends! Then tag it with #RogersHoopla and #RogersAR so everyone can see how much fun you're having!

Ugly Sweater Contest and Cocktails with Santa

Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. ~ Downtown Rogers

Dig out that ugly Christmas sweater and wear it with pride! You could win the prize for the "best" ugly Christmas Sweater in Rogers! Come down to Frisco Stage between 6 and 8 p.m. for your official photo. Main Street Rogers will post it on Facebook so everyone can vote on the best! There's three categories of ugly: "Most Creative," "Seriously?!," and "Silliest." After your photo shoot, pick up a "Cocktails with Santa" game sheet for $5 and you can taste-test cheery holiday beverages of all kinds at participating shops. Once you've completed your rounds, bring your card back to the Frisco Stage to vote on your favorite drink, and pick up a special, limited-edition gift bag!

"The Polar Express"

Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013 ~ Victory Theater

Spend a relaxing morning with your family watching "The Polar Express" at the Victory Theater. Children ages 3-12 and their families will have so much fun watching the movie while enjoying cookies & hot cocoa. Wear your pajamas and visit with Santa before the movie, take home treats and start a new family tradition! Seating is limited, so get your tickets early by clicking here. Tickets are $10 per person, including movie, snacks, Santa and gifts.

Can't-Miss Holiday House in Downtown Rogers!

One of the best-lit houses in northwest Arkansas is located in downtown Rogers, off 3rd and Poplar. The house has lights and Christmas music synced together to a variety of songs. To enjoy the show, all you have to do is tune in to 91.1FM so you can listen along as the lights dance along to the music. For a preview of the show, check out this YouTube video.

Pinnacle Hills Promenade Events

Tuba Christmas Performance

November 30, 2013 ~ 1-3 p.m. ~ Food Pavilion. A festive performance to spread holiday cheer for family and friends, Tuba Christmas, will be Saturday, November 30, 1:00-3:00 p.m. in the Food Pavilion.

FREE Holiday Skating Rink Opens Dec. 6 through 27

December 6 - December 27. Enjoy the FREE Holiday Skating Rink located near the Malco Theater at the Promenade Mall. Take advantage of this fun and free activity and create a special memory this holiday season.

Razorback Spirit Night with Santa

December 6, 5:00-8:00 p.m. ~ Santa Set in the Food Pavilion. On Friday, December 6, 5 to 8 p.m., Pinnacle Hills Promenade will host a special event to celebrate the Razorbacks. St. Nick will even don team apparel provided by the University of Arkansas Razorback store, located at Pinnacle Hills Promenade, for a unique and "spirited" holiday photo.
